Apparently dieting is not a positive word!
Did the billion dollar industry call it quits? Accept that dieting doesn’t have a very good success rate and throw in the towel, just as you would if a prototype model doesn’t work?
No, they just repackaged it and marketed it under a new name.
Yep, the buzz word is Lifestyle or Wellness.
Lifestyle… we can get on board with that. Wellness we like. They both sounds wholesome.
Just make sure the diet wolf is not hiding under the label. Ready to pounce and drag you back to the world of obsession, anxiety, starvation and disappointment.
If you are restricting your hours of eating, is it a lifestyle or still a diet plan?
I know people tell you that you get past the hungry with lots of coffee and water but my goal had never been to tolerate hunger.
I wanted to work with food and listen to my body. I wanted to be in control, not let the clock or food manage me.
I also found that when I did eat, after hours of not having food, I gorged. Of course, it didn’t matter in terms of calories as I could eat a ton when I had only one meal. But somehow the gorging and the stuffed feeling has the diet feel to it.
The goal of a Dieter in Recovery is to have a healthy relationship with food and your body. No angst, no shame, no weight cycling and no obsession.
This doesn’t mean at times we don’t have long periods when we don’t eat food. Sometimes I don’t feel like breakfast. I’m simply not hungry, but it is not a diet choice, it is my body telling me it doesn’t need food. It is me listening to my body, not the diet industry.
The more you listen to your body and yourself your relationship with your body and food will change.
That is a lifestyle that has a wellness component, which you created.
Who are you listening to? You deserve the right to have a voice.
You are so worth it. Thanks for reading.
