“Please don’t flush nappies, sanitary towels, paper towels, gum, old phones, unpaid bills, junk mail, your ex’s sweater, hopes, dreams or goldfish down this toilet.”
This was a sign in the bathroom on a train in Britain.
Now that makes a bathroom visit a pleasure!
It is the little things in life …
… and in my sixth decade I have to agree, I find that is more true than ever.
Definitely the big events are highlights, but the everyday life details are what keeps the joy happening. Yes, of course the trip to Paris before the pandemic was fabulous.
But laughter is my biggest medicine. I am reminded of an expression frequently used in Britain “Let’s go out for a good laugh.”
When I wrote out my values, having fun and laughing was high on my list. Deprivation and starvation didn’t get a place. And the memory of going out for meals where I obsessed over whether the food was good or bad, the number of calories, the amount of fat, protein or whatever obsessive dieting I was following only put a damper on an evening.
One of my biggest tests of how well my day went is to ask: Did I have a good laugh today? Did I have fun?
This is part of my Joy component … a very necessary part of my life.
Sometimes we have to grab manufactured fun.
When things go dark, I head for my favorite grab bag of laughs (courtesy of YOU TUBE).
It is my dopamine fix and I don’t say this lightly. A comedy show or a comedy channel or podcast will always make my day so much brighter.
It is in my self care box.
Here is my list and I encourage you to find yours.
- This is Sir Ian Mckellen lip syncing and trying to hog the limelight off George Ezra. Delightful!!
2. Who doesn’t find Hugh Grant adorable? The lovable rogue usually, but in the film Love Actually, he plays the P.M we all want to see.
In the words of Jake Carpenter, founder of Burton Snowboards “Have as much fun as possible”
What are you doing for fun?
